The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official environmental label of the Nordic countries. It guarantees minimal environmental impact from products.
Havi’s crown candles and antique candles carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. To earn this label, products must meet strict criteria developed by experts. These criteria set requirements for the environmental impact throughout the product's lifecycle. The climate impact of Swan-labeled candles is minimal as they use primarily renewable stearin and do not contain oil-based paraffin.
Other emissions are also minimal. Swan-labeled candles must burn cleanly without sooting indoor air. They must not contain heavy metals, fragrances, or harmful chemicals.
By choosing an environmentally labeled candle, you can be sure your choice is among the best for the environment.

Raw Materials
Candles
Havi candles use stearin, paraffin, or a mix of these materials.
Stearin
Havi’s antique and crown candles use stearin made from animal-based tallow. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel awarded to these candles ensures they burn cleanly and do not contain chemicals harmful to humans or the environment.
Paraffin
Paraffin used in candles is a byproduct of crude oil refining. Havi’s indoor table and lantern candles are made from fully refined paraffin wax with the lowest possible oil content. The paraffin candles use the same Swan Ecolabel approved colors as our antique and crown candles.
Tealight Materials
Havi’s tealight candles are made from paraffin or a specialty wax blend. A specialty wax blend refers to a mix of stearin and paraffin. By increasing the proportion of renewable stearin, we aim to make our tealights more environmentally friendly. Havi’s grave candles and outdoor torches are also made from specialty wax blends.
The shells of Havi’s tealights are made of aluminum. Aluminum shells can be recycled by placing them in the small metal collection bins at properties or eco-points.
Napkins
Tissue
Material Havi’s napkins are made of tissue material, which is refined wood fiber turned into cellulose. Tissue material is made from virgin fibers. The designs on napkins are printed using multi-color printing techniques with food-safe, water-soluble inks. The product biodegrades in industrial compost or can be disposed of as mixed waste.
Airlaid Material
Airlaid material is used for Havi’s table runners, tablecloths, and all 40 cm napkins. Airlaid is a refined wood fiber turned into cellulose, made from virgin fibers. The product biodegrades in industrial compost or can be disposed of as mixed waste.

Using Candles
Required markings follow the SFS-EN 15494 standard (Candles: Product Safety Labels) and are either warning labels or usage instructions. These are intended to ensure the proper and safe use of candle products. Please observe these instructions when burning candles!
How to Burn Candles Safely
Always place a burning candle on a suitable holder or base designed for candles.
Do not place the candle in direct sunlight or near a heat source to avoid tha candles from bending.
Avoid placing candles in a drafty area to ensure even burning without smoke or tunneling.
Always place candles where children and pets cannot reach them.
Place the candle upright to prevent dripping.
Do not place candles too close together to avoid overheating.
Light crown candles at the base of the wick. Lighting from the tip can cause the clean cotton wick to smolder without fuel.
Cold candles do not light as easily. Avoid storing grave and lantern candles in your car during winter.
Candle Usage Tips
Trim the wick to about 1 cm. A wick that is too long can cause the flame to grow excessively, drip, or extinguish.
If the candle does not fit in the holder, thin its base by rolling it under hot water.
Remove stearin from a candle holder by placing it in the freezer.
The hardened stearin will come off easily.
Extinguish candles by dipping the wick into melted wax; this reduces smoke and makes the candle easier to light next time.
For lantern candles with lids, place the lid on only after the candle has burned for a few minutes to improve its initial burning.
Extinguish candles by smothering, not blowing. This reduces smoke and prevents wax from spreading onto surfaces like tables.
